Activity #3: What should I take to the beach?
Purpose: For students to practice giving advice using the modal “should.” To practice vocabulary words associated with vacationing spots.
This can be a whole-class warm-up drill activity, where students become more familiarized with the structure for giving advice using an authentic context.
For example:
T: What should I bring to the beach? Sunblock. You should bring sunblock. A water bottle. (signal students to complete the sentence)
Ss: You should bring a water bottle.
Scaffolding/Instruction : Vocabulary words associated with vacationing. Presentation of the grammar point for modals (especially “should”).
Evaluation: Grammatical accuracy (oral)

- For more variation, the teacher can elicit reasons for bringing certain objects. For example: "You should bring sunblock so you don't get sunburnt."
- More scenarios can be provided later and students can practice giving suggestions for what to bring to other vacation spots (e.g. camping) in pairs.
